Tbilisi Electric Locomotive Plant (JSC "Electric Locomotive Builder", cargo. სს "ელმააააიი") is an enterprise for the production of locomotives for the needs of railways and industry, located in Tbilisi (Georgia). The year of the plant's foundation is 1939. So in 1939, in connection with the expansion of the electric locomotive repair shop, it was decided to move the entire steam locomotive repair plant to the outskirts of the city of Tbilisi with its simultaneous reconstruction. The construction of the plant began in 1942. In 1947, the profile of the plant was changed to locomotive repair. The name of the electric locomotive plant has been borne since 1957, after the organization of the production of electric locomotives at the plant. On December 30, 1957, the plant produced the first electric locomotive H8-201 (later VL8-201). In 2007, the 50th anniversary of the release of the first electric locomotive was celebrated. In the future, the plant established the production of electric locomotives from components supplied from other plants (Lugansk Diesel Locomotive and Novocherkassk electric locomotive). Gradually, the plant began to manufacture some of the parts and assembly units itself. The process of increasing localization of production continues to this day. Currently, the plant is corporatized, belongs to the Russian association "Dortekhkomplekt". The number of employees of the plant is more than 2000 people (excluding related companies in Georgia and abroad).
