History

According to the results of the Commission's work, by Order of the RVSR No. 322 of January 31, 1922, significant changes were made to the existing uniform of the Red Army. According to the order, all previously installed items of clothing, with the exception of leather bast shoes, which still continued to exist, were canceled, and a single, strictly regulated form of clothing was introduced instead. A uniform cut of the overcoat, shirt and headdress has been established. A winter and summer headdress (helmet) was introduced, somewhat modified. Following the example of a winter helmet, a pointed spherical-conical shape was also acquired by a summer headdress. The summer helmet for all branches of the armed forces was made of tent cloth or cotton fabric of light gray or similar color and did not have lapels on the back of the head (in May 1924, this headdress was again replaced by a cap). A chin strap made of the same fabric as the helmet was fastened in front.

The cut and color of the winter helmet have been largely changed. The helmet of the 1922 model was made of dark gray uniform cloth, the helmet cap became lower and more rounded. The diameter of the patch star increased and became 9.5 cm.

On May 13, 1924, by order of the RVS No. 641, the summer headdress was canceled, but the winter helmet of the 1922 model remained unchanged and only just before the winter season of 1925-1926 underwent some design changes. In July 1925, when reviewing the existing description, in order to save money, it was decided to build a hood not from 4 wedges, but from six, and also stop covering the outer buttons with colored instrument cloth, which was no longer necessary, thanks to the use of small metal shaped buttons. The tie cord was also abolished – a narrow ribbon that was available on the lining and allowed changing the volume of the helmet over the head. At the same time, in addition to the two available ones, an additional intermediate helmet size was introduced.
