History

Buttons with numbers and alphanumeric images were entered in units in the Russian army in December 1829. Not yet managed to find any information about the specific differences of buttons with the same numbers belonging to different parts of the army. Graphic figures (with tail, no tail, straight, tilted, etc...) can hardly be used for attribution, as some differences could make the manufacturers of buttons. In addition, during the period of use of buttons with numbers was repeatedly changed the numbering of parts, which further confuses the identification process. In June 1862, most likely due to significant (more than 2 times) increase in the number of army regiments, numbers and letters on the buttons were abolished and the uniforms were sewed smooth buttons without a pattern. The button could wear the lower ranks of the following regiments and units of the RIA:

  • from 1829 to 1833 — the 4th regiment of Chasseurs

  • from 1829 to 1833 — the 4th Marine regiment

  • from 1829 to 1833 — Dorpat horse Jaeger regiment

  • from 1829 to 1833 — Yamburg Uhlan regiment

  • from 1829 to 1856 — Novorossiysk Dragoon regiment

  • from 1829 — 4th Caucasian Linear battalion

  • from 1829 - 4th Orenburg line battalion

  • from 1829 to 4-th Siberian Linear battalion

  • from 1829 to 1862 — the Lubny hussar regiment

  • from 1833 to 1856 — Estland chasseur regiment

  • from 1833 to 1856 — Year infantry regiment

  • from 1833 to 1862 — Kharkov Uhlan regiment

  • from 1835 — 4th squadron of the corps of surveyors

  • from 1856 to 1862 — Koporye (the crown Prince of Saxony) infantry regiment

  • 1856 from April to October — Kinburn Dragoon regiment

  • from October 1856 to 1860 — Ukrainian Dragoons
