The Grunwald sign, also known as the "Grunwald Shield" or "Grunwald — Berlin 1410-1945", was made of bronze in the form of a Gothic triangular shield with a Polish eagle at the top, sitting on the so-called Amazon shield. Also on the front side of the sign there are the dates "1410" and "1945" and the inscription in two lines "Grunwald / Berlin". In the central part there are two Grunwald swords with the point down, located parallel to each other. On the smooth reverse side there is a threaded pin with a nut, with which the badge is attached to the uniform on the right side of the chest. The overall dimensions of the sign are 28×54 mm. The badge was made and awarded throughout the existence of the Polish People's Republic, and therefore has varieties of different metals, including silver. According to different versions, this was how officers had to differ from ordinary soldiers or direct participants in hostilities from the rear. It is believed that about 400,000 Grunwald badges were awarded in total.
