The National Rifle Association of America (or NRA) is a non—profit association in the United States that unites supporters of the right of citizens to keep and carry firearms. Since its foundation in 1871, the organization has been informing its members about bills related to firearms. Since 1975, the organization has been directly lobbying for some legislative initiatives or opposing them. The National Rifle Organization is considered the oldest continuously operating civil rights organization and "the largest and most funded lobbying organization in the United States."

Modern NSA is based on improving shooting skills and training in the safety of possession and use of firearms. The organization also publishes magazines and sponsors shooting competitions. The number of participants in May 2013 exceeded 5 million. Observers and lawmakers view the NSA as one of the three most influential lobbying groups in Washington. The Institute of Legislative Initiative of the National Assembly is a lobbying body that manages its political action committee, the Political Victory Fund (PVF). Throughout its history, the organization has influenced legislation, participated in or initiated lawsuits, and endorsed or opposed various candidates.

The NSA has been criticized by groups advocating gun control. The organization has often been at the center of criticism in connection with high-profile school shootings, such as the Sandy Hook shooting, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, and the Florida school shooting.
